Step one- Administering PAXAID
Administer Paxaid every 15 minutes for the first hour, directly into the mouth. Example: first time at 12:00, second time at 12:15, third time at 12:30, fourth time at 12:45, and then a fifth time at 1:00. After the first hour of administering every 15 min, administer the Paxaid every hour with the recommended amount of electrolyte solution. If you do not have the Paxaid on hand yet, start this protocol with the emergency tea recipe (found below), and then start the whole process over again when you receive the Paxaid. Continue to administer Paxaid every hour until your dog is eating and able to hold food down for six hours, then reduce the Paxaid to every six hours for three to four days.
Step Two- Administering any other Amber NaturalZ products
Other AN products that are recommended are Vibactra Plus or Vibactra (Use only one, we recommend the Vibactra Plus), Life Cell Support, Adizone and Petizol for fever. Of these recommended additional products, the Vibactra Plus will be the most important to use in a Parvo situation. Administer any of the above mentioned AN product with the first dosing of Paxaid directly behind the back of the teeth. Then, administer every six hours with the electrolyte fluid until three to four days after your dog is eating and able to hold food down for 6 hours. Remember that Paxaidis the only product that is administered every hour.
(Tip) You can mix each dosage in the same electrolyte fluid as the Paxaid for that dose. Do not mix & store AN product
Step Three- Hydration
One of the most important things in dealing with Parvo is to keep your dog hydrated. A Turgor test is a simple way of telling if your dog is dehydrated. To perform a Turgor test, simply pinch and pull up the loose skin on the back of your dog’s neck and twist it half a turn, let go and count in seconds the
time it takes to go back to its original state. If it takes longer than three seconds, your dog is dehydrated. Another way to check if your dog is hydrated is to press firmly on the dog’s gums and release. The color of the gums should turn pale where your finger was. Count the seconds it takes for your dog’s gum color to return. If it takes three seconds or longer, they are dehydrated. If your dog is dehydrated, start giving him the recommended amount of electrolyte fluid every hour. An enema is recommended. If the skin sticks together and takes longer than five seconds (or if the gums take longer than 5 seconds to regain color) , they are severely dehydrated. In the case of being severely dehydrated, start administering hydrating enemas found in step six. If your dog cannot hold down any electrolyte fluid, see severe vomiting in step 5. If you are unable to get your dog hydrated, take your dog immediately to the vet to get hydrated. Many vets will give you a hydrating kit to take home with you.
Step Four- Sugar Levels
The second most common reason dogs with Parvo go down quickly is low blood sugar. The simplest way to tell if their sugar levels are down is to check the color of the gums. Normally the gums should be a nice pink color (some dogs have brown or black gums, but there should still be some color). Monitor what the normal color of your pets’ gums are. White or pale gums indicate that the sugar level is low, but there are a few things you can do to help. The first thing you can do is to rub molasses or pancake syrup on the gums every twenty minutes. If that does not start turning your dog’s gums pink within a few hours, then start giving your dog the beef liver purée recipe by mouth (found on the insert of instructions that came with the Paxaid). If your dog is unable to hold the beef liver purée down, give your dog one enema with the beef liver purée. In addition, you can purchase Nutri-cal from your local pet supply store and give as directed on the label.
Step Five- Severe Vomiting
If your dog is unable to keep any food down, we have three recommendations. The first is to try MSM, which can be found in most Pharmacies in the arthritis section. Look for the pure MSM, not glucose with MSM. Most MSM will come in a pill form, so to administer it, divide it into the amount your dog needs according to the MSM to Weight chart (found on the Paxaid insert). Example: If you buy a 1000mg capsule or pill and your dog only needs 250mg, divide the MSM into 4 pieces. Once the MSM is divided, crush it up, mix it with the recommended amount of electrolyte fluid, and administer it every 12 hours as needed. MSM can be given by enema if your dog vomits the MSM. The second option is to give us a call, AN 877-727-8243 and we will be happy to help. If none of the above work, then a trip to the vet to receive anti-nausea medication is recommended.
Step Six- Enemas
I do not recommend the enema unless you have done this before. It is i
mperative to get the advice of your Vet.
Step Seven- Bowel Movements
Bowel movements are essential to overcome parvo, as this is how a dog sheds the parvo virus. When a dog has not had any bowel movements, it may be caused by inflammation in the intestinal tract. To reduce the inflammation, it is recommended that you administer either Adizone every six hours or MSM every 12 hours. Most dogs will shed the Parvo virus up to four weeks after they have recovered from Parvo. For this reason, we suggest that you keep your animal confined to your house and yard for four weeks.

Step Eight- Relapse
A relapse is when your dog goes from getting better, or even from being fine, to getting worse. Pulling a dog out of a relapse is usually a very difficult task. It is essential that you keep an eye on the sugar levels and hydration levels. At the first sign of a relapse (which usually begins in vomiting or lethargy) start the Paxaid back up every hour. Continue giving the Paxaid every hour until your dog is eating on its own and holding food down for AN least six hours or longer, then you can reduce the number of doses to four times per day. If your dog continues to get worse, try administering the MSM every 12 hours if you haven’t already.
Step Nine- First Foods
Once your dog is ready to eat, and is sniffing for food, it is advised not to give any commercial foods at this time as the intestinal tract has been damaged by the Parvo virus and needs bland soft foods to avoid irritating the stomach and risk the dog from not wanting to eat. We do recommend a beef stew recipe from Dr Picarne’s book called ‘Natural Health For Dogs & Cats’. Beef or rice flavored baby food is also fine to give.
Step Ten- Cleaning Up After Parvo
Once your animal is better and has been eating without vomiting for three to four days, you may stop administering Amber NaturalZ products. Unfortunately, you are not done with Parvo yet. To prevent other puppies from coming down with Parvo, we recommend cleaning your yard, home, and any place your dog may have been while sick with the Parvo virus. One common way to kill the Parvo virus is to use 1-part bleach with 30 parts HOT water. For carpet or any other furniture that may be contaminated, we recommend using Kennel Kare by HT products. Kennel Kare can be purchased at www.htproducts.net. Keep an eye on the areas your animal has bowel movements and spray the area down with bleach for the next four weeks. This will prevent your yard and your dog from carrying the parvo virus and infecting other animals. It will not harm the Parvo Pup or the other pups if you decide to give them each the Paxaid and Vibactra Plus twice a day.
