This uncirculated 1,000 Italian Lire banknote is part of the series of machine-readable notes issued by the Bank of Italy in the 1980's. It has brown, green, orange, purple, and black colors and dimensions of 112 mm x 61 mm. Its obverse side contains the seal of the Maritime Republics, a griffon and dragon underprint, and a portrait of Marco Polo. Its reverse side is vertically-oriented and features the Doge’s Palace in Piazza San Marco in Venice. Security features include a solid security thread and a watermark of Marco Polo with an electrotype BI monogram.
