Name: 19 Various plant fossils w part and counterpart encased in siderite concretions (50 PCs in all )- and 2 singles
Age: Pennsylvanian (307 million years old (Desmoinesian)
Formation: Shelburn/Busserson Sandstone member
Location: Maumee Chieftan coal mine Terre Haute, Indiana in Vigo County
These particular nodules were all collected in the 1970’s at the long closed Maumee Chieftan mine near Terre Haute, Indiana by a prolific hunter. Bottom line, is due to coal mine closures and land reclamation processes while mining, there are no remaining spoil mounds and you simply cant find these anymore. Indiana nodules are found far deeper underground than Mazon Creek. They tend to be smaller, but are very sleek and attractive and displayable .
Due to his proclivity in the field, the collector of these nodules was able to collect an assortment of shapes and sizes and varieties and put together these Rykers in beautiful arrangements.
I will remove the specimens from the 16” x 12” Ryker box , carefully rubber band , and ship them to you vacuum packed in a priority mail box to avoid any damage. As much as I’d like to send you the Ryker case, it’s next to impossible to package and ship without breakage to the glass. not to mention the prohibitive shipping costs . I will also print and include a copy of the photo showing the arrangement in case you want to arrange them the way collector did. If you have a question or want an ID on a specific nodule, let me know, I’d be glad to help. These fossils once in a nice case make a beautiful wall hanger for your home or office over and above the fossil collector appeal of owning a nice collection of uncommon Indiana fern nodules, from an unusual location
I met the collector a few years ago through a mutual acquaintance. Over time and a number of visits, I was able to purchase his entire collection which has been gathering dust in my attic for many years. It is time to let others enjoy these frames , and I am enjoying rediscovering them. The collector passed a few years ago, and was an accountant professionally. He spent most of his vacations camped out at quarries hunting fossils (also impossible to do today)
Thanks for your interest and please save me as a favored seller as I hope to get busy and post a lot more fossils over the coming months
The fossils weigh just at 3 lbs. before packaging. I will ship these by priority mail box
