    Not only can fossils preserve the fauna and flora of the past, but occasionally they preserve the activities of past life; this piece from the Green River Formation features a leaf that has tell-tale signs of feasting by insects. The leaf is well preserved with fine venations; the insects or caterpillars that fed on the leaf left cul-de-sac shaped indentations along the leaf's margin. The leaf measures 5 inches long on a 9 x 5 inch matrix.
