Megaphyton - ( tree fern stem)
shows vertical row of the petiolar scars after big leaves / fronds. Megaphyton which grew to 10m in height, and is associated with leaves of the true spore ferns genus
Pecopteris
and other extinct tree ferns.
The group "true arborescent tree ferns" includes foliage that have been shown to produce spores on the underside of their leaves. Some plants in this group were ground dwelling and others may have been epiphytes. Though most of the plants are treated as tree ferns and have been found to be related to an extand order of ferns called the Marattiales. Today the Marattiales consist of two genera Angiopteris and Marattia.
