Plate is a full 14 inches across!
This is a HUGE plate of plant fossils from the now-closed location at St. Clair, Pennsylvania. The distinct fossil ferns are preserved as a thin film of white pyrophyllite on black shale - quite striking! The detail of the fossils is very nice, and the individual fern fronds are nicely showcased and naturally spaced on the large plate of shale. There are TWO different types of ferns on the front side of the plate, and MANY Sphenophyllum "flowers" preserved on the back side!
This is a very nice, extremely large display plate of classic white seed fern fossils from the Coal Regions of Pennsylvania - very impressive!
