Here is a strange-looking example of a classic fossil leaf. This is Macginitiea wyomingensis, a Sycamore, from the Green River Formation of Colorado. All five lobes of the leaf are present, however one of the lobes is quite deformed! The venation of the leaf is easily seen, and a LONG petiole is still tightly attached to the leaf. The dark brown leaf contrasts beautifully with the khaki-colored matrix. The distinct fossil is well showcased on the semi-squared plate of shale. This is a very fine example of an ancient Sycamore leaf from the "Fossil Lake" deposits of Colorado.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS.com is included with this specimen.
