This is a very nice fossil leaf. It is a distinct Allophylus flexifolia leaf from the Eocene of Utah. This distinct leaf has an asymmetrical base and slightly serrated margins. The body of the leaf is easily seen, and the petiole is still tightly attached to the base of the leaf. The striking leaf has beautiful natural color and contrast and is wonderfully showcased on the large, squared plate of shale that also contains an extremely bug-eaten leaf - the voracious appetite of the insects left hardly any flesh on the stem! This is a very collectible example of a nice Allophylus leaf and near-fully bug-eaten leaf from the
"Fossil Lake" deposits.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS.com is included with this specimen.
