We chose T1 tool steel because of it's 18% tungsten content and great wear properties.
If you are not aware of tungsten it's what makes up carbide and you know how much longer carbide lasts than steel.
Our knives are machined from T1 bar stock, and are extremely sharp.

The 13 in. Planer Knives are disposable and reversible. They feature T1 Steel construction for long-lasting sharpness. 3 reversible blades are included in each package.
The three blades are double edged and are ground with both a primary bevel and a secondary bevel close to the edge. The primary angle is 45 degrees with a secondary relief angle of 40 degrees. These blades are razor sharp and ready to go.
Another note for those changing the blades: Pay attention to the direction that you are supposed to rotate the cutter head when doing your blade change!!!! Rotate it toward you if you are standing on the switch side of the machine. If you rotate it in the wrong direction you can end up eventually backing the motor pulley off of the shaft which will cause you some serious issues. So if you are having premature blade wear you may want to look at the health of the rest of your planer parts, specifically the motor bearings.
